Still a Child

Stavroula Pagona’s collection of poems gives a playful nod to our worries, big and small, and refreshingly highlights the bright and playful sides of life.
Still a Child is a rare collection of metrical poems, which strikes a marvellous balance not only between the serious and the humorous sides of life but also between childlike and adult wisdom. Themes such as time, fear, school, mistakes and flaws are presented with such disarming honesty, simplicity and humour that, by the end, we’ll all want to make mistakes, rush off to the dentist and build chaotic windmills! Waking up in the morning, a visit to the dentist, how to train your dog, nightmares, mischief, clouds of sadness – everything seems happier and more hopeful when you’re still a child! Could anyone wish for anything more magical? The author identifies with children’s innocent questions and everyday worries. She tackles all the issues that concern children and is determined to find solutions, even if they are absolutely hilarious!

As a lyricist, she has collaborated with leading composers and performers, whilst her short stories and plays have won awards in competitions. In 2017, she was honoured by the Women’s Literary Society for her collection of 25 poems for primary school children. She has written the children’s books Mission TERATEX (Ellinoekdotiki, 2018), The Adventures of Voula in the Red Book (Ellinoekdotiki, 2019), Guardian Angel (Ellinodiktiki, 2020), and has written the lyrics for the 12 children’s songs included on the CD The Island of Imagination (Panik Records, 2019).
