Astrid in the bath

A sweet and fantastical adventure that invites us to discover the magical world of the iconic figure of children’s literature, Astrid Lindgren, who believed that anything is possible!
Astrid is a girl who spends her days in the bath, writing and drawing in notebooks with pages that never end. And she dreams of travelling. In the neighbouring houses live Anika, who serves hot tea to passing wild ducks, and Tom Tom, who is trying to make the tastiest ice cream in the world. And they dream of travelling. Astrid, Anika and Tom Tom are waiting for something to happen. Something that will stir them up, shake them out of their routine and take them far away. One day, Astrid will imagine Pippi. Together, they will travel to a world where anything is possible! The transcendent text and the spectacular illustrations create a world of freedom, much like that of the great Swedish author, which aims to stir the reader, to make them question the meaning of their actions and, ultimately, to discover what it is that everyone is waiting to happen! A book for everyone, which conceals within its words and images different keys to understanding, depending on the age of each reader.

"A story about how you can travel the open seas, even if you’re sitting in your bathtub."

– Katerina Zamaria, Diastixo

"Mandilaras creates a new world of freedom, and the talented Vasilis Koutsogiannis illustrates it with pastel colours, tenderness and sensitivity."

– Eleni Korovila, Book Press

I was delighted to get my hands on this book. I was delighted because I managed to glimpse once more that magical gateway I had discovered as a child, but which has been growing increasingly blurred and flickering of late. I was delighted because anyone who reads it, whether a child or an adult, will learn about that girl who wrote and drew stories in her bath, so unaware of the beauty and light that these stories would spread in the future. And I was glad because it reminded me that anything can happen. I believe that, but some days even that becomes blurred.
