1699. Venice.
Ilaria Tazano is born into a family of textile merchants. The city has lost its political power, but retains its magnificent palaces, its numerous theatres, and its magical carnival. It is the golden age of art and music, and particularly of the violin.
When she is just a few weeks old, hoping for a better life, her mother leaves her at an institution renowned for its music education and divine concerts. There, Ilaria learns the violin and becomes a copyist for the maestro Antonio Vivaldi, whilst at the same time discovering the power of friendship. It is in this small artistic prison that she first encounters love at the age of fifteen, bringing down the walls that until then had protected her but also hidden her from the world.
A passionate story about the search for love in all its forms and the sublime emotions evoked by music, set against the backdrop of a mythical Baroque Venice.
The author and musician combines her two talents in a new, fiery novel.

Léonor de Récondo
Léonor de Récondo was born in 1976 in Paris into a family of artists, with a mother who was a painter and a father who was a sculptor. She began playing the violin at the age of five. Since then, she has enjoyed a brilliant musical career with international performances and recordings, with a focus on Baroque music. She made her debut as an author in 2010 with the novel La Grâce du cyprès blanc. This was followed by seven more novels, including Amours (2015, Grand Prix RTL-Lire and Prix des Libraires), Point cardinal (2017, Prix du roman des étudiants France Culture-Télérama), La Leçon de ténèbres (2020, Prix Ève Delacroix from the Académie Française) and Revenir à toi (2021).
