The Crisis of Prophecy

This is the fourth edition of the book, which was first published in 1964. It comprises sixteen texts published in newspapers and magazines from 1964 to 1966, divided into three sections: A. The Crisis of Prophecy, B. Heresy, and C. Orthodoxy Yesterday and Today.
The book is of great interest, as these texts could serve as a kind of concise and more accessible introduction to the author’s later, more specialised writings. Although written so many years ago, it addresses the still-relevant theme of alienation through the foreign-imposed pietism of religious, para-ecclesiastical organisations, the corruption and distortion of ecclesiastical, popular piety, and the pseudo-scientism used as a pretext by an academic theology that stifles the truth of the Church, separating it from the real-life problems of humanity as well as from the Eucharistic experience and practice. The author’s writings form part of a reaction to alienation that was initially weak but has gradually grown in scope
