A well-crafted book on art is no longer an exceptionally rare occurrence in Greece. Rarely, however, does one have the opportunity to acquire something more comprehensive and less fragmented than an exhibition catalogue or a monograph. A multi-page, bilingual album presenting, for the first time, one hundred and fifty Greek artists photographed in their studios, accompanied by their most representative works, a handwritten note from them and a full biographical entry, an elegant, comprehensive project dedicated from start to finish to the artists and their art, a true resource for art lovers and the wider public alike. The initiator and supporter of this publication is Nikos A. Vernikos, a member of the shipping family from Sifnos. His key collaborator on this project, which was driven by his desire to include photographs of the artists in the collection of artworks he owns or wishes to acquire, is the photographer Penelope Masouri. Masouri, known for her work on actors from classic Greek cinema and Greek writers, photographs luminous figures. Those she admires, and those whose faces are hidden behind their work. Here, she captures the image of Greek painters and visual artists. Moralis, Kessanlis, Tsoklis, Chandris, Tanimanidis and many more, all of them significant figures in the artistic and art-loving world, pose alongside their works, creating a collection that captures the interest of both connoisseurs and those less familiar with the Greek art scene.
