On Christos Giannaras - Texts written before and after his passing

Sotiris Gounelas was born in Athens in 1949. He attended courses in French and Greek philology in Paris (1970–1976), but soon chose to focus on the study of philosophy and writing. Reading the works of Plato and studying modern Greek literature turned his interest toward ancient Greek discourse and the Orthodox Christian tradition. His collaboration with the journal Synaxis—whose publication he edited from 1986 to 1997—solidified his conviction that Western civilization requires a courageous critique and the identification of the fundamental points of deviation from a spiritual reality that once constituted a common ground between East and West. He has edited the "Bridges" series for Armos Publications, has contributed articles to the journals Nea Estia and Nea Efthyni as well as the newspapers Kathimerini and Eleftherotypia, and collaborates with the journals Synaxis, Theologia, Neo Planodion, and To Koinon ton Oraion Technon.
