My work

A radical, funny, and relentlessly honest novel by the award-winning author of The Employees that led to legislative changes regarding maternity in Denmark.

After giving birth, Anna feels lost. She moves with her family to the unfamiliar, snow-covered city of Stockholm. Overwhelmed by the unaccustomed anxiety of motherhood, she obsessively consumes news and makes online purchases she cannot afford. To keep from sinking deeper into depression, she forces herself to read and write, striving to strike a balance between her role as a mother and her identity as a writer.

A remarkably courageous work about the foundational experience of childbirth, uniquely blending prose, essays, poetry, memoirs, and letters to explore the fragile and complex relationship between individuality and family—between motherhood and artistic creation.
