The industries of the future

NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER

‘A fascinating book that clearly outlines the benefits and challenges of the new wave of global innovation.’
— Arianna Huffington, Founder and former President of The Huffington Post
Alec Ross, one of the world’s leading experts on innovation, explains what is set to happen in the world over the next ten years. Combining storytelling with economic analysis, he offers a vivid and well-researched perspective on how sweeping global trends are shaping the way we live, highlighting the obstacles that will emerge and how we can tackle them. As Senior Innovation Advisor to the US Department of State, he worked with Hillary Clinton, travelled to forty-one countries, investigating the latest developments on every continent, and as such knows well what the future holds. In the book, Ross highlights the best opportunities for development, explaining why countries prosper or decline economically. He also examines the sectors that will shape our economic future, including robotics, cybersecurity, the commercialisation of genomics, the next step for big data, and the impending impact of digital technology on currency and markets. The Industries of the Future is an essential book for understanding how our world works today and how it will work tomorrow, ideal reading for professionals in every sector and country.

"...Robotics, advanced biosciences, the digitisation of money, cybersecurity and big data – everything we need to know for the next ten years – all brought together in one book..."

– G. K. Karatzas, Proto Thema

"...the book reads like a dream; it is accessible and—in its own way—enjoyable, and fills you with utterly useful knowledge: useful not only for the future, as the title suggests, but for the present. But it is also knowledge that is frightening. The changes the world is set to see within the next decade are enormous. And they concern us all."

– Kyriakos Athanasiadis, Amagi.gr

"...within its pages, one will find a compendium of everything we need to know about developments over the next 10 years: robotics, advanced biosciences, the digitisation of money, cybersecurity and big data... In other words, everything that lies ahead of us as major challenges that are drastically changing economic and social reality and ‘taking us’ into uncharted waters."

– Kostas Tsausis, Protothema.gr

"Alec Ross’s *Industries of the Future* has helped me organise a great deal of scattered knowledge about the future of the economy and society."

– Manolis Andriotakis, Andriotakis.com

"...Clear even when referring to purely scientific topics such as genome mapping, concise even when describing entire emerging industries such as database management, Ross is a perceptive political analyst rather than a futurist."

– Thanasis Antoniou, Diastixo.gr

Robots and closed professions. Article by Yannis Palaiologos in Kathimerini, on the occasion of the publication of the book ‘The Industries of the Future’.

– Yannis Paleologos, Kathimerini

"...The key strength of the analyses and conclusions in Alec Ross’s work is the direct comparison between what the fourth industrial revolution offers, tests and prepares, and the so-called ‘internal costs’, that is, the social, economic, sociological, political and cultural costs that cannot be measured, created by the ‘alternative’ logic of the Fourth Industrial Revolution."

– Philip D. Drakontaidis, Ta Nea

"...The rapid success of this book is due not only to the highly interesting topics it presents, but also to the significant social and political standing of the author who has written it."

– Spyros Manouselis, Efimerida ton Syntakton
