Godfrey is a frog

When Koukoutsis and Avgoula meet for the first time, they are almost the same size and shape. But as their friendship grows, so do Koukoutsis’s roots… but what about Avgoula? She grows wings and can’t wait to use them and fly. Although Koukoutsis would love to follow his friend on her adventures, his roots are strong and he cannot do so. So, he watches her fly away. Avgoula discovers a world far from Koukoutsis. However, true friends always find a way, within the cycle of life, to feel connected to one another and to meet up; ‘to play games, tell jokes and make plans’, just like Koukoutsis and Avgoula.

At first, Godfrey is just an egg in a little pond. Then he grows arms and legs and a long, sticky tongue. After that, however, the changes stop and Godfrey is just a frog. ‘What? Alex Latimer crafts a wonderful story that, on the surface, entertains readers with his humorous descriptions, whilst also providing a clever way to introduce young children to concepts such as self-esteem and acceptance.
