A commemorative volume on ANTAIOS CHRYSOSTOMIDIS is being published in collaboration with Agra, Ikaros and Kastaniotis Publishers, compiled by his friends and colleagues in publishing, translation and the films “The Antennas of Our Time”. Edited by Mikela Chartoulari, 19 renowned foreign authors write about Antaios: Herta Müller (Nobel Prize winner), Amos Oz, Niccolò Ammaniti, Leonardo Padura, Ingo Schulze, Enrique Vila-Matas, Sarah Waters, Abraham Yehoshua, Paolo di Paolo, Annie Proulx, Colm McCann, Norman Manea, Daniel Kehlmann, Donna Leon, Aris Fioretos, Alan Hollinghurst, Maurice Attia, Santiago Roncagliolo, Graham Swift.
The volume also contains the three short stories written by Antaios Chrysostomidis towards the end of his life: ‘Still Life with Kourabiedes in a Hospital’, featuring Antonio Tabucchi, in which a miracle takes place, ‘Yellow Shoes’, which caused quite a stir when it was first published in 2014 in an anniversary volume by Ikaros Publications, and ‘Iviskos’, from which the phrase ‘Look at something beautiful…’ is taken. The latter two deal, in literary terms, with the progression of illness and one’s attitude towards it.
The publication is accompanied by 26 photographs and a detailed biographical note.
Antaios Chrysostomidis was born in Cairo, Egypt, in 1952 and passed away on 14 August 2015, afflicted by a degenerative, agonising, paralysing illness.
