Prose texts with a distinctly fragmentary and poetic character, exploring the manifestations of the paradoxical and the absurd in the inverted face of reality.
Thanos Stathopoulos continues his journey through the coordinates of the archive, which contains the elements of a personal mythology, focusing on the Text as a literary genre and an erotic/poetic event. La Folie is a miniature museum that hosts the dangerous exhibits and noble absurdities of madness, the void, existential excess, the history of literature, autobiography, erotic passion, melancholy and the absurd. The author’s fragmentary and sui generis prose renders the beauty and ugliness of our shared psychopathology. Thus, the book can also be read as a poetic testimony to all that unfolds in the inverted face of every day.

"...‘La folie’ is a visit to the Athens of the destitute, yet unyieldingly autonomous; it is a guide to survival (and the succession of death and resurrection) within a city shrouded in the struggle and sweat of its people..."

– Dimitris Athinakis – Kathimerini

"...These texts are solitary; they do not look askance, they see with their eyes closed. They have learnt to listen because they have cast off the grandiloquence and all the fanciful lies of the literary world, all the ‘gymnastic’ displays..."

– Xenophon A. Brountzakis topontiki.gr

"...The case of La Folie, Thanos Stathopoulos’s new collection of writings, constitutes a courageous plunge into the author’s personal archive..."

– Mary Kligatsi, litart.gr

"...It is as if Stathopoulos had kept a diary for years, written exclusively at the zenith or nadir of each day – and always through some distorting lens..."

– Akis Papantonis, Eφημερίδα των Συντακτών

"...Perhaps the deepest anguish of this book is the desire to claim the right to belong to what is rightfully yours, a demand that is profoundly sacred and crucial to the meaning of life and freedom..."

– Ignatis Chouvardas, Bookpress.gr

"...With fragmented and sui generis prose, Stathopoulos lays bare not only the psychopathology of the characters in his archive but also fragments of his own: cigarettes, drinks, kisses, nests, wombs, shells, cocoons, skies, gulps of water and melancholic outbursts – observations such as ‘God only knows what I’ll do’...."

– Stefanos Tsistopoulos – Athens Voice
