Metaphysics as a timely challenge

-
A lively dialogue between the popular Greek thinker and philosopher Christos Yannaras and the principal translator of his works into English, Norman Russell. The book serves as an excellent introduction to Christos Yannaras’s theory and an opportunity for those familiar with his work to explore his thinking in depth. Christos Yannaras says of the publication: We began working together on the translation of my own books into English — eight complete translations have been published to date. During this collaboration (spanning approximately twelve years), I often appreciated and accepted as a challenge the translation questions and queries that Norman sent me, which required substantial clarification. This gave rise to the idea of attempting, alongside the work of translation, a dialogue that is not bound by any other purpose, one that is fertilised by the translation-related prompts and challenges, yet also transcends them. A dialogue that would bring to light the essential matters we often take for granted or fail to fully appreciate their significance. Norman sent me his questions in English and received my answers in Greek. He translated them promptly, which is why the English edition of our joint book was published first.
