A marvellous book that unravels all the facets of democracy, touching upon the points we usually overlook in historical readings. The element of chance, the circumstances, the risk and the perseverance of the enlightened people of every historical period.
– Argyro Bozoni, thetoc.gr"...In short: we are dealing with a great work, without precedents or references, self-contained, which will not be repeated and which remains in the hands of the astonished reader long after they have finished their first quick (it cannot be otherwise) reading. Its journey on the global market will be a long one..."
– Kyriakos Athanasiadis amagi.gr"...Based on ancient and more recent sources, this illustrated text gives a voice to the ordinary citizen, to show exactly how history is experienced at the very moment it is being written by its anonymous creators, and not merely by the figures who have passed through its pages. ..."
– Titika Dimitroulia cnn.gr"...I hope that DEMOCRACY, in the form of an enjoyable graphic novel, will spark many discussions among the younger generation – discussions that democracy absolutely needs...."
– Lena Divani protagon.gr"...The subversive narrative is breathtaking, whilst the artwork is flawless and captures the era, the people and the protagonists in the best possible way..."
– Panos Tourlis tovivlio.net"...The three creators have used their ‘weapons’—their talent and creativity—to engage with the crisis we are currently experiencing, a crisis that began as an economic one but has spread everywhere. The fact that they are doing so is commendable. That they do it well is admirable..."
– Theofanis Papachristopoulos, artcoremagazine.gr"...‘Democracy’ is a brilliant example of the kind of comic we want to read again and again, a beautiful historical fairy tale, at a time when we need it so much..."
– Nikos Giakoumelos, Smassing Culture"...Democracy, as the book is so aptly named, is the story of the emergence of the political system within the actual flow of life. It chronicles but does not lecture. It records, it highlights, but it does not take a simplistic stance between good and evil. The archetypal human need for freedom, security, self-determination, courage and a sense of duty, pervading the entire book, with a plot and writing style that go beyond even the logic of the traditional comic as we know it, combine to form a historical novel in comic-book form, spearheaded by the fictional character of Leander, who converses on more than equal terms with all the historical figures of Athens and Greece of the era, one of the first martyrs of the historic birth of democracy..."
– Apostolos Pappos, Elniplex.com"...the three creators, without distorting the recorded facts of history, have rendered the story in today’s vernacular, approaching it from a perspective that suggests that often another truth lies hidden behind certain events, and what we know may merely be some of the reasons..."
– Statusupdate.grThe contributors to this volume have not embellished reality. On the contrary, they have often chosen its darkest aspects in order to portray a human Athens rather than a city shrouded in the mist of myth. Private motives are often stronger than public ones; base motives overshadow the noble ones.
– Giorgos Perantonakis, bookpress.gr"...The idea of democracy has always been a major question. As a system considered the best, it raises questions about the individual’s place within it, about how well it actually functions, and to what extent the objective realities of each era and society influence it. On the other hand, it also poses the pertinent question of what actually arises from constant peace and prosperity! ‘Democracy’ delves into these questions and poses several more, very aptly. It truly deserves a place in every library..."
– Labrini Karathanasi, Diavasame.gr"...The subversive narrative and critical examination of the city’s political, social and economic conditions weave a story that is both breathtaking and thought-provoking. It seems, ultimately, that democracy was forged as much by chance and historical circumstances as by the actions and courage of resourceful people dedicated to their cause..."
– Magda Zindrou, Every Day Parents"...Annie Donna’s illustrations are captivating. She varies the colours according to the hero’s mood, focuses on the faces during emotionally charged moments, and renders the settings and protagonists with an incredible vibrancy that captivates you...”
– Kalliopi Kritikou, Literary Alleys"...While retaining many of the key characteristics of comics, the book relies on the imagery; however, the text captivates the reader with its power. [...] Despite the tragedy we encounter in its pages, the intense action, humour and romance it possesses make the book appealing and accessible to all."
