Yiannis Sideris

Giannis Sideris (1898–1975) was a historian of modern Greek theater. He studied philology and served for many years as a teacher in secondary education and at drama schools. In 1938, he took the initiative to establish the Theater Museum and served as its first curator from 1938 until his death in 1975. Giannis Sideris dedicated his life to collecting exhibition materials and documenting the history of modern Greek theater. Alongside his archival work, he continued throughout his life to produce significant contributions in the fields of historiography, theater studies, and performance criticism. His major works include: The Ancient Theater on the Modern Greek Stage 1817-1972. Vol. A' 1917-1932 (Ikaros, 1976) and History of Modern Greek Theater 1794-1944, Volumes A'–C' (Kastaniotis, 1999–2010).
