This is an anthology of the most successful April Fool’s Day pranks published in the major Athenian newspapers from the late 19th century to 1950. The book also includes light-hearted stories and daring pranks of the era, intended to entertain or satirise reprehensible attitudes and inappropriate behaviour. Whether April Fools’ pranks or not, all the episodes mentioned share a common feature: when they took place, they caused quite a stir in Athenian society and went down in the capital’s history as ‘pranks that left their mark on an era’!

Prodromos Bodossakis Athanasiadis was a unique figure in 20th-century Greece. For some sixty years, he engaged in diverse creative activities across all spheres of modern life. He emerged as one of the leading businessmen, enjoying great recognition, yet at the same time he devoted his energies to the service of the nation, offering not only significant financial support but also his valuable experience during critical times. The book presents the eventful, creative life of the great Greek entrepreneur, primarily through his unpublished autobiographical notes and the photographic archive he himself compiled.
