Konstantinos Svolopoulos

Konstantinos Svolopoulos was born in Athens.
He studied history and archaeology at the University of Athens and political science and international relations in Paris. In 1978 he was appointed lecturer at the Law School of the University of Thessaloniki and in 1981 professor of the history of international relations at the Law School of Thessaloniki, a post he held until 1989, when he resigned to take up the chair of Professor of Modern Greek History at the University of Athens.

Together with Konstantinos Tsatsos and K. Trypanis, he founded the ‘Konstantinos G. Karamanlis’ Foundation, of which he became director in 1990. Between 1962 and 1965, he curated the Eleftherios Venizelos archive at the Benaki Museum. In 2003, he was elected a full member of the Academy of Athens. In 2009, he served as its vice-president and in 2010 as its president.
