William B. Irvine

William B. Irvine has been a professor of Philosophy at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, since 1983. He graduated in Mathematics and Philosophy from the University of Michigan and holds an MA and PhD in Philosophy from UCLA.

His early books deal with the ethical and political aspects of child-rearing. Through his writing, he aims primarily to reach readers who may have little background in Philosophy but who are interested in carefully re-examining the everyday decisions of their lives.

His book, A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy, provides an accessible and practical introduction to the ancient philosophy of life.
