Manuel Vilas

Manuel Vilas was born in 1962 in Barbastro, Spain. He is an award-winning poet and prose writer. He writes regularly for the newspaper El País.

He has published eight novels and a large number of poetry collections and essays. Ordesa (Ikaros, 2020) was published in Spain in 2018, became a massive bestseller, was voted by El País as one of the best books of the year, and established Vilas as one of the most important contemporary Spanish writers, on a par with Javier Cercas and Antonio Muñoz Molina. The book has been translated into more than twenty languages, and in 2019 it was awarded the Femina Étranger Prize.

His book Alegría (2019) was a finalist for the 2019 Planeta Prize and has so far been translated into more than seven languages.
