Themistoklis D. Tsatsos
AuthorHe was born in Athens, the son of Dimitrios Tsatsos, a politician and lawyer, and Theodora Efstratiadis, née of Trieste. His brother was the future President of the Republic, Konstantinos Tsatsos. He studied law at the University of Athens and Heidelberg and practised as a lawyer in Athens. In 1929, he was appointed lecturer in administrative law at the University of Athens, a post he held until 1968, when he was appointed, for a short period until 1970, as an extraordinary professor. He also taught as a professor of administrative law at Panteion University.
In 1936, he was elected to parliament for the first time. Under Metaxas, he was expelled and exiled. He served as a representative of the liberals in the Greek government in Egypt, and after liberation he held the posts of Minister of Justice (1944), Minister of Supply (1945), Minister of Aviation (1947) and Minister of Justice (1950). In 1959, he represented Greece in the drafting of the Cypriot constitution, whilst in 1961 he was appointed ambassador to Bonn.
