Dionysis Savvopoulos
AuthorSongwriter. Performer of his own original songs. Born in Thessaloniki (2 December 1944). He abandoned his law studies in 1963 to pursue a career in the arts. A prolific songwriter. He has released 15 collections of songs on vinyl and CD. They are also available abroad, wherever there is a Greek community. He was arrested and imprisoned by the junta in August and September 1967. He has travelled extensively, and continues to do so, throughout Greece, the Balkans, the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Canada and the USA.
He has written music for theatres in Athens and for Epidaurus. And for the cinema. (Music award for ‘Happy Day’. He refused to accept it). As a music producer, he introduced younger and emerging colleagues to the recording industry. He published four books containing his lyrics, sheet music and writings (Ikaros 1976, Ithaki 1981, 1982, 1984). From time to time, he had his own series of programmes, both on television and on the radio.
