Marieke Lucas Rijneveld

Marieke Lucas Rijneveld was born in 1991 and grew up with her family on a farm in North Brabant, the Netherlands, before moving to Utrecht. She is considered one of the most important new voices in Dutch literature.

His first collection of poetry, Kalfsvlies (2015), was awarded the C. Buddingh Prize for best poetry in 2015, and the newspaper Volkskrant named him literary talent of the year.
In 2018, his first novel, The Night Is Uncomfortable (Ikaros, 2021), was published, which thrilled Dutch readers, won the ANV Debut Prize and soon became a national bestseller. In 2020, he was awarded the International Booker Prize jointly with the translator of the English edition, Michele Hutchison, making Marieke Lucas Rijneveld the youngest author ever to win it. The book has already been translated into more than 14 languages.

Alongside his writing, he continues to work on a farm.
