Dimitris Daskalopoulos

Born in 1939 in Patras. He studied law in Athens. From 1962 until his retirement in 1996, he worked as a clerk at the National Bank. Between 1984 and 1996, he was responsible for publishing the Bank’s cultural magazine, ‘Emeis’, and during the last fifteen years of his service, he was head of the Bank’s Publications & Historical Archives of the Bank and Director of Public Relations. In 2006, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Department of Philology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has published poetry, essays and studies on topics in modern Greek literature. He has edited collections of works by Seferis and has compiled bibliographies on Seferis, G. K. Katsimbalis, Sikelianos, Elytis, Manolis Anagnostakis, Alexandros Kotzias, Nora Anagnostaki, C. P. Cavafy and many others. Furthermore, he was a regular contributor to the magazine "Entyktirio", the newspaper "Ta Nea" as a book reviewer and columnist, as well as a regular contributor to the "Papyros-Larous-Britannica" encyclopaedia.

He is a member of the Hellenic Literary and Historical Archive (ELIA), the Society of Authors, the Hellenic Society of General and Comparative Literature, the Centre for Modern Hellenism, and the Moraitis Society. He served as an alternate member of the Board of Directors of the Centre for the Greek Language and, between 2000 and 2004, was vice-president of the National Book Centre. He has served on the committee awarding the state literary prizes, as well as on the corresponding committee of the magazine ‘Diavazo’. In 1990, he represented Greece on the committee awarding the European Prize for Literature (Dublin). He has been invited to and has participated in numerous conferences, symposia and workshops.
